PPA  CELEBRATES 31st ANNIVERSARY &

14th PAROLE AND PROBATION WEEK

With the theme, “Community Partnership Towards Crime Prevention and Social Justice”, Parole and Probation Administration (PPA) celebrate its 31st anniversary and 14th Parole and Probation Week highlighted with a roundtable conference on the Volunteer Probation Aide (VPA) program of the Agency which will be held on July 18, 2007 at the Coral Ballroom B of the Manila Pavillion Hotel.

The roundtable conference, to be attended by the officials of the PPA and signatories of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on VPA program, will focus on vital issues relative to the implementation of the program as well as its impact on the rehabilitation work of the Agency.

In October 2006 and pursuant to Section 3 of Executive Order 468 which revitalizes the VPA program, the PPA signed a MOA with other government and non-government agencies involved in developing programs related to volunteerism. Under the MOA, the participating agencies will provide support and assistance in the form of legal aid, technical advice, consultation services and networking measures to the PPA as far as volunteerism work is concerned.

Volunteerism is a program of the PPA aimed at generating maximum, effective and efficient citizen participation and community involvement in the over-all rehabilitation process of the Agency clients, namely, probationers, parolees and pardonees and first-time minor drug offenders placed on suspended sentence. Furthermore, Section 28 of Presidential Decree No. 968, the Probation Law of 1976, authorizes the appointment of citizens of good repute and probity to act as probation aides to assist in the supervision of probation.

Guest speaker during the conference is Justice Secretary Raul M. Gonzalez. Attending are heads and representatives  of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG); Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD); Philippine National Police (PNP); National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM); National Prosecution Service (NAPROS); Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency (PNVSCA); Liga ng mga Barangay; Volunteer Service Overseas (VSO) Bahaginan Foundation, Rotary Club of Metro Valenzuela, Lions Club of Manila and Philippine Association for Volunteer Effort who are the partner agencies in the MOA. Couples for Christ, which has an earlier MOA in the PPA, will also attend the conference.

Other activities in the weeklong celebration from July 18-24, 2007 are mini-olympics at the Marikina Sports Complex; seminars on Renal Disease Control Program, the Harmonized Rehabilitation Programs of the Agency, lecture-demo on First Aid and CPR; medical/dental mission; thanksgiving mass, closing program and general assembly.

During the closing program, awards will be given to employees who had served the agency for 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 years. Token of appreciation will be awarded to the said employees.#
